I’m the daughter of a military man so I moved around a lot as a kid. My mother is from Germany originally, so my father accepted an opportunity to be stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base, to be near my mother’s family in a small town in Southern Germany. I spent my impressionable teen years there, and developed a love and heart for Europe. We returned to the United States for my junior year in high school, living in Apple Valley in the hot and sunny High Desert of California.

I can remember reading the newspaper after school every day when I was in the fifth grade. In my junior year, a teacher introduced me to broadcast journalism – and it was love at first sight! I earned my degree at California State University, Fullerton, then pursued my career in broadcast journalism with stints at a small cable station in California, then in newsrooms in Idaho, Nebraska, and Minnesota. Not long after taking a job as a morning anchor in Omaha, I met Brian – another love at first sight experience! We married in October 1995 and had Chloe in 1998. Sarah was born in 2001.

My family often attended church while I was growing up, but it wasn’t until I was 28 that I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. As I reflect upon my adulthood, I see so clearly the many people God placed in my path to help me grow in my faith: There’s the young woman who often cried silently as she listened to faith music, overjoyed with the acceptance she’d

found. The fellow co-worker who challenged me with the book, “Evidence that Demands a Verdict,” and another co-worker who gave me a copy of “Experiencing God.” Family, friends, acquaintances all touched me in some way until awareness burst forth. In 2007, I recommitted my life to Christ when I was baptized by immersion.

I’ve spent more than 20 years in the broadcasting industry, anchoring and reporting in small towns and large cities. It’s a field that has a pretty heavy “cool” factor attached to it, an exciting one that offers endless opportunities to meet people, hear their stories, and learn about what’s happening around the world. The media is a powerful tool that has an ability to educate, influence attitudes and change the way people think. Brian and I are hoping to harness its power in ways that will further Christ’s kingdom.
